Let's review the good things for my humor: the Huskers played tough at USC,
which is playing for the NC, and were one fumble and a couple dropped int's
from being in the game down to the wire; were one fumble or defensive stop
from beating Texas; went into AgonyLand and won in dramatic fashion; swept
the North (for what it's worth, it's still D1A B12); neutralized and humbled
wunderkind Freeman in his own house; Callahan coached circles around
Hawkins; and put up with reactionary and overly expectant fans. 9-3 this
year, in my astute and omnipotent opinion, far exceeds "the least ugly of
the bunch."
If Bill Callahan didn't win COTY last year with the big turnaround and
beating Michigan, he stands little chance of ever winning it until he's
hoisting the crystal pigskin. Furthermore, it will be hard for him to win
it until he wins it from his fan base.
