six seasons and the overall record will have fewer losses than
only one of Solich's six seasons.  Would that be progress?

Solich's conference record was 33-15, averaging 5.5 conference
wins per season.  NU will have to win both remaining conference
games to have a better than Solich's _average_.  So, yes, if NU
finishes 6-2 in the conference, it is progress.  If NU finishes
5-3 in the conference, it progress relative to Callahan's record,
but not Solich's.
