[personal] [Husker] Question

The fans in our section were calling for a snap as well.

I believe the rule in college is that if you substitute on a play,
which the Huskers did by sending in the punt team, the other team
must have a chance to respond to the substitution. I know that is
the rule in the NFL and I believe that the NCAA adopted the rule a
while ago as well. What I don't know is what the guidelines are for
how much time the defense is given to respond.

Obviously, the defense shouldn't be allowed to put the offense into a
situation where they have to quick-snap the ball to beat the play
clock, which was running, or to eliminate the opportunity to do the
multiple pre-snap shifts that Nebraska likes to run. I wouldn't be
surprised that the guideline is the :15 second mark on the play
clock. That would allow a full ten seconds for the responding
substitution, but still leave plenty of time for pre-snap line reads,
etc.

Does anyone on the list have any firmer information?
