I think a couple of things enter in and I am not poking at anyone
or anything. I am just trying to put perspective on it as I see it. I
could be dead wrong but this is my opinion. I have been cognizant of
Husker football since about 1959 mainly since the big upset of OU in
1959. That means I go back to Bill Jennings as Head Coach. I don't say
that to impress anyone or boast. I merely say that to give people a
time frame. From that time through yesterday I have seen, and heard,
countless Husker games on TV. Ninety-nine percent of the people I talk
to or read or hear their opinions typically there are two things which
are consistent after the game. They believe the announcers were
terrible and they believe the announcers were against the Huskers. I
travel a lot for my job and talk to a lot of College football fans in
other parts of the country. They pretty much feel the announcers were
against THEIR teams as well.
I believe when it is my team playing I watch and listen with a
different intensity and interest than when two other teams are playing.
I pick up on and digest EVERYTHING the announcer says. When I watch two
other teams I may pick up on it but it doesn't matter to me at all.
When it's the Huskers every word out of their mouth is critical. As
you said we are going to know more about NU player numbers, names, and
positions than will any National or Regional announcer which do multiple
teams throughout the year. Announcers are interested in two things.
Those being their paychecks and the other being ratings. There also is
a very little possibility any announcer would really care who won the
game other than what the results would do to future ratings. It is also
unlikely every announcer is always against the Huskers.
