He also said the players were tired, dinged up, and
looking forward to the bye week.  

They've had nine games so far with no break.  They still
have Missouri and Texas A&M before the bye.  When was the 
last time the Huskers played 11 games without a break?  

To add to the physical demands of playing such a tough
schedule, there's the mental pressure of changing the
gameplan each week.  Variable gameplans make it harder
for opponents to prepare for the Huskers, but they also 
place additional stress on our players (particularly the 
less experienced ones).

I think that mental and physical fatigue affected the
Huskers at Stillwater.  I also think the lack of Husker
supporters might have been a factor.  At Memorial 
Stadium the Huskers are lifted by the fans.  At USC, 
Iowa State and Kansas State, there were large numbers 
of Husker fans in the stands.  However, at Stillwater, 
there were far fewer fans supporting the Huskers.  
Combine that with mental/physical fatigue, and it's 
no wonder we went flat.
