Hello Husker Fans,
I personally think this was a good win for the Huskers, (not that
there is such thing as a bad win) because for the first time in 3
weeks we had to "FIND a way to win" rather than just sit back and
"spectate" while the game goes by.
Even though the hitting was anemic, we still managed to find a way to
win and that's encouraging.
It's also worth expanding on that Tony Watson picks up the win after
only throwing just 3 pitches to get us out of a jam in the 8th. I
thought this a good call by Anderson and it showed the players we're
going to do whatever it takes to win.
The other gutsy call (one that I thought was dumb at the time) was to
pull Gorsett, who was not hitting well, in favor of Edlefsen who drew
the walk and then Nimmo pinch ran for him who later came in to score
on an Andrew Brown single after heading to second on a wild pitch.
The statement behind this was, "If you're not going to hit, we'll find
someone who will, regardless of what you've done up till now". It's a
message I was asking for by reordering the lineup earlier this week,
and it proved the difference. It's no secret how much of a Luke
Gorsett fan I am, too.
We have to be sitting about as well as we could now with a TT team
coming up that's not that good and Joba on the hill. Assuming we win
that game (and we know nothing's guaranteed), that sets up our best
chances against UT with Watson taking the hill on Saturday.
Good work Anderson, good work...

Go Skers,

jun> by beating Baylor 3-2 despite being out hit 8 to 5. Shirek pitched well giving
jun> up 2 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings and the NU offense eked out the victory with the
jun> help of a timely 2 out rally in the bottom of the 8th to get the winning run.
jun> An inning earlier Christy homered to tie the game after Baylor homered in the
jun> top of the inning to take the lead.
jun> Herr, Bird and Jensen closed out the game after Baylor went up 2-1 in the top of
jun> the 7th. I'm guessing - I didn't have audio here at work - that was in part to
jun> get Herr & Bird in early to get them the tourney experience along with Shirek
jun> having a pitch count near 100.
jun> Jensen made things interesting in the 9th with a leadoff double, but a popped up
jun> bunt by the next batter, another pop up to the ss kept the runner from
jun> advancing. The inning ended with an intentional walk and ground out.
jun> I'm with Skylar in not liking the tiebreak method. The hard part is fitting an
jun> eight team tournament into a weekend. How important do you make the
jun> tournament? It seems that the Big 12 is trying to increase the likely hood
jun> that the #1 and #2 seeds meet inspite of the results on the field. It can also
jun> diminish the incentive of top seeds on Saturday if they have already clinched a
jun> championship game birth. Come tournament time, every game is supposed to be
jun> critical to becoming a champion.
jun> Now it's TT tomorrow night.
jun> Go Big Red,
jun> - Jay
