Hello Husker Fans,
As mentioned before, Sunday's NU loss gives them the #4 seed in the
Big XII tourney (due to a tie breaker to OU for the head-to-head
matchup). It also dropped NU to #15 in the Baseball America poll.
That means NU joins Texas, Texas Tech, and Baylor in a round-robin
style bracket with OU, KU, OSU and MU filling out the second
bracket. NU starts the action off against Baylor at 10:00am
Wednesday. NUs games will not be televised (nor streamed via
huskers.com) until Saturday vs UT on FSN at 1pm. All games will be
carried on Pinnacle and SIRIUS (Channel TBA) and live stats will be
available via Huskers.com or BigXIISports.com.
The seeds are as follows:
#1 Texas
#2 OSU
#3 OU
#4 NU
#5 Baylor
#6 Kansas
#7 MU
#8 TT

<personal rant>
I'm not real thrilled with the tie breaker system should their be
three 2-1 teams (Baylor beats NU, TT and loses to UT...NU beats UT,
TT and loses to Baylor, UT beats Baylor, TT and loses to NU). In
that scenario where the 'head-to-head' tie breaker doesn't work, the
teams finished in the regular-season Big 12 race will determine who
goes on. In other words, tie goes to Texas or highest seed.
If it's a tie between us, Baylor and Texas Tech (very unlikely) we
would go on. Baylor and TT cannot benefit from a tie.
On a positive note (and the reason for the changes to round-robin)
each team is promised at least 3 games and will not need to play
more than 4. The problem was some of the winners came through the
losers bracket playing 6 games in 4 days and really using up their
pitching staff (NU 2000, 2005 UT 2002, 2003) and crippling them for
postseason play.
