Hello Husker Fans,
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I was unable to watch today's
game with some Mother's Day activities.
Baseball, if you ask me, is the ultimate streak sport. You're rarely
steady all the time, you're either hot or not. Right now, the Huskers
are in a funk. The hits are there (or at least before today) just not
at the right time. The pitching is good, but the fielding is bad. It
seems innumerable how many times we've ended our frame with a diving
catch by the opposition or a questionable call. Bounces are just not
going our way.
Will the Huskers snap out of it? I dunno. I think we're far from a
panic button yet tho. The reason I say that? We've lost 6 of 7... yes.
And that's bad... yes. However, we lost 2 of those to the hottest in
the Big XII and if you don't believe me, ask OU who was just swept by
them (OSU) and outscored 15-2 on the weekend (4-2, 7-0, 4-0). OSU
should shoot up in the rankings, too. Back to back weekends 5-1
against top 10 foes, WOW! Who would've though... We lost a midweek
game, which as I've said before can be a bit unpredictable since most
of your everyday starters are on the bench. Finally 3 games against a
team who is clearly a better team at home (26-7 vs 7-12 away).
Don't get me wrong, I'm not excusing it away BY ANY MEANS. It's a bad
streak and we need to get out of it. However, it's not like it was
against the weakest of competition.
FYI, even if the Huskers lose the rest of their games, they'll still
host a regional. Super Regional is REALLY on the bubble right now and
we may have cost ourselves that.
FYI, with OSU sweeping OU, they now have the possibility of stealing
the number 2 spot in the league. (Who would've thought that 2 weeks
ago). Here are the standings with UT clinching the title: We could
finish as low as 4th.
Texas 19-4-0 38-15-0 (Final series @MU)
Nebraska 16-8-0 37-12-0 (Final series OU)
Oklahoma State 15-9-0 36-14-0 (Final Series TT)
Oklahoma 15-9-0 37-16-0 (Final Series @NU)
Assuming OSU sweeps TT, then NU would have to sweep for 2nd. If either
OU or NU end up tied with OSU, OSU is 2nd (head to head). Basically,
to finish second, we have to win the series at least and sweep if OSU
does (which they probably will)
