Hello Husker Fans,
TS> Is this team the best Husker team in this great run over the last
TS> 8 years?
I really do think so. The good teams we've had up to this point have
all seemed to have weaknesses. If we had good pitching, the hitting
was suspect. If the hitting was good, pitching depth was a problem.
If we had a weakness this year, it's probably inconsistency with the
'other' pitchers (midweek), especially in the areas of control and
mental mistakes. But even that has gotten better as the season went
on.
I've been saying all year that I thought this was the best team we've
put together in a while. I would also say that twice I wondered how
they'd react to a rough patch and both times they pulled through.
There was one point where we lost the last game of the Kansas series,
split midweek against Northern Colorado, and then lost the first game
to KSU for the weekend. How did they respond? A 12 game winning
streak. Yesterday I wondered how they'd bounce back after losing 2
games in late innings, and it looked like they were going to do the
same tonight, but they bounced back, had a big 8th and won the game.
TS> Is this the bast chance NU has had to do some real damage in
TS> Omaha?
Again, I'd like to think so. My only concern is the pitching depth.
When you get to Omaha (or try to) you burn up a lot of innings and a
bad performance by a non-regular pitcher can hurt you.
Not to cast a shadow over this team, because our pitching depth is
very decent. It's just probably the weakest part of the team.
One of the best things you can say about this team is, "There is a
different hero every night".
