Hello Husker Fans,

Huskers dropped game 1 today 5-4. Joba definitely did not have his
best stuff as the Huskers blew an early 4-1 lead.

Joba pitched 7, gave up 8 hits, walked 3, struck out 7 and allowed 4
earned runs. IMO, the most painful was in the bottom of the 7th with
a runner on third, with an 0-2 count and two outs Joba tossed a
perfect softball pitch (about 50 feet) that got away from Christy
and allowed the tying run to come across. The very next pitch he
struck out the batter to end the inning. In defense of Joba, the OSU
ballclub came into today as the leagues best hitting teams in darn
near every category, but missing the strikezone as much as he is,
I'm almost of the opinion that they need to drop him to the 3rd or
4th starter. He hasn't had a great start for a few weeks now.

Erik Bird was saddled with his first loss giving up a run in .1
innings of work in the 8th. Zach Herr came in for the final 2 outs,
but the damage had been done.

From an offensive side, Andy Gerch had a nice 2 for 4 day with an
RBI, good to see him swinging the bat well after coming back (his
  father passed away).

Matt Gardner went the distance for OSU on a 124 pitch effort. Even
though his stats weren't great, he really buckled down later in the
game and kept the Huskers off the bases.

Game 2 is tomorrow @ 2:00pm with a series finale at 6:30 on Monday.

Important note: Texas beat up KU today 11-4 to move into a tie with
NU (in the loss column, NU's percentage points behind) with the tie
breaker going to NU. OU split a double header with KSU and is 2
games in the loss column behind both NU and UT.

I HATE it when announcers make incorrect statements,
especially when they drag on and on about it. I was watching UT's
game on the Internet today and their announcers were saying that
with the NU loss UT moves into first place and a game up in the loss
column. He went on to say that if they both win the rest of their
games, NU would be 22-5 and UT would be 22-4. He talked about it
for about 10 minutes about how great it was UT was ahead in the loss
column. My blood was boiling :)

  Oh well...
