Hello Husker Fans,
Great question. As someone already mentioned, it does help boost
their RPI and a win against a top tier program is good publicity. For
recruiting, makes the coach look good, etc. Typically you throw your
ace against the toughest team you play that week. For example, NU
threw Joba on Saturday and Dorn on Friday very early in the season
this year because they played a dormat on Friday and Rice on Saturday.
In addition, Northern Colorado was off for the weekend and didn't play
again until the Tuesday following, thus no need to rest their
pitchers.
