[Husker] Baseball Question

I'm not sure, but I'd bet that this is probably an
attempt to improve their RPI. I don't know if RPI is
as important in baseball as it is in basketball or
hockey, but NCAA tournament bids frequently are
awarded based on how you perform in games against top
competition. For a school like Northern Colorado,
they may view a game against Nebraska as more
important than a conference game this weekend. (Just
like some may view our football game against USC as
more important than our game against Oklahoma
State...)
Example: Nebraska-Omaha's hockey team finished 5th in
their conference, but received an NCAA tournament bid
based in large part on going 6-2 in their
non-conference games, including 2-0 against other
teams who made the tournament.
