Hello Husker Fans,
The Husker baseball team won both games today 10-0 and 3-0. Sorry
for the late post, I was actually at the games today and just got
back to Omaha.
Pitching, as usual, (on the weekends anyway) was dominant. The first
game was started by Tony Watson. He threw 5, struck out 6 and looked
very sharp. Wertz came in for the final 2 and pitched no hit ball.
The game continued into the 7th until NU scored it's 10th run and
Anderson came out and stopped the game. I always thought they only
did 7 on double-header's anyway, but it looked like they were going
to keep going. After the first game, they announced the second game
was only going to be 7 as well.
In the second game, Charlie Shirek threw a complete game (7 innings)
on only 67 pitches. He struck out 3 and scattered 3 singles for the
win. Joba didn't throw today because of the colder weather, they
didn't want someone with tightness in his shoulder to throw in the
cold. He did head down to the bullpen to warmup and looked fine.
It's clear that our weekend staff is going to be one of the best
this year. Joba, Watson, Dorn, Shirek, Cranston, Jensen, and Wertz
makes for a great weekend staff. We're going to be awful tough to
win a series against.
From a hitting side, Nimmo hit his 2nd home run of the year that
just cleared the wall in right. Jaros opened up the scoring in the
first game with a sac fly in the first, and a run scoring hit in the
3rd. The Huskers broke it open later that inning with 6 stolen
bases in the inning and a couple of RBIs by Gerch and Buckman.
In the second game, Gorsett started it off in the first with a
two-out double to left center. He scored later on Brown's RBI
single up the middle.
The Jackrabbits were clearly not as good of a team. I don't think
they ever got passed second base, and I think they only got there
once.
Due to the weather, they have changed tomorrow to a double header
again in hopes of getting all the games in.
