[Husker] OWH: Pederson denies that they couldn't afford buyout

In tomorrow's World-Herald, Steve Pederson denies that
money played a factor in the decision to retain Barry
Collier.

"We have done exactly what I hoped to do when I got
here, which was build a very solid fiscal plan and get
good reserves built at the (NU) Foundation," he said.
"We are on very, very solid ground."

Buyouts for Collier and Spinelli by April 2007 would
shrink to about $550,000.

As progress this season, Pederson cited 19 victories,
two wins in the Big 12 tournament, a win over
Marquette and road wins over Iowa State, Oklahoma
State and Kansas State.

"If indeed we are breaking through," he said, "I don't
want to disrupt that progress."
