Hello Husker Fans,
The Johnny Dorn of old came back today for a complete game 4 hit
appearance with no earned runs (1 unearned)and striking out 8 for
his 3rd win.
Husker sensation Luke Gorsett, (again, I say sensation) hits his 7th
homer of the young season. Bama tied it up an inning later and
Bryce Nimmo put the Huskers up for good with a homer in the 6th. A
2-rbi single for Juco-transfer Andrew Brown later that inning put it
to 4-1.
NU added an insurance run in the 7th when Sullivan doubled and was
'sac'd over to 3rd by Edlefsen, and then safety-squeezed home by
Nimmo (I love Anderson's small ball).
Dorn got in a little trouble in the 9th giving up singles to the
first 2 batters, but then struck out the side to end the game. It
was great for Dorn to go all 9 today because Jensen pitched 3.1
innings yesterday so he should be good to go tomorrow. Freshman
Charlie Shirek takes the bump tomorrow, who's pitched outstanding so
far this year, but anytime you have a freshman on the hill you want
to have plenty of relief in the pen. If they go tomorrow (it will
likely rain) Shirek will face Bama's freshman stud Tommy Hunter and
this kid is supposed to be the real deal. He's 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA
and even tho it's early is supposed to be one of their best.
Anyhow, great win the the skers, sealed the series win and rested a
bullpen that we may need tomorrow. Go Huskers!!!
