I posted this right after the baseball game, but it didn't seem to go
through. Sorry for the double post if some of you got it.

Hello Husker Fans,

What a great game this Friday afternoon for the Husker baseball
team's home opener. A record opening-day crowd of 6291 saw NU win
2-1 in 11 innings on a base-hit RBI from Brandon Buckman that scored
  Bryce Nimmo.

Tony Watson got the start today because of some soreness in Joba's
tricep in his throwing arm. It's not supposed to be serious, just
an early season precaution so he'll take the week off. Bama's only
run came in the fourth inning when Watson hit Bama's Valverde with 2
outs. A couple of singles later led to a 1-0 score.

The Huskers struck back off Juco-transfer sensation Luke Gorsett's
6th homer, (that's right, I'm using the word sensation, I just love
this guy), a towering shot into the berm in left field.

The Husker bullpen got out of jams in both the 7th and the 8th. In
the 7th inning, Anderson used a trio of pitchers, Luke Wertz, Jared
Cranston, and Erik Bird. Bama had 1st and 3rd with no outs. Christy
threw out the runner at second. Wertz then walked the next batter
and he was sacrificed over to 2nd (off Cranston). Bird then came in
and walked the first batter to load the bases. He then got Bama's
Bush to ground into the fielders choice Wherle to Opitz.

In the 8th, and error brought the first batter on board with 1 out.
A base hit followed 2 batters later making it 1st and 3rd with 2
outs. Bama's Belcher then stole second (with no throw, pitch was in
the dirt), so Jensen intentionally walked Avila. Again, with the
bases loaded, Jensen got Bama to line to short to end the inning.

Husker's darn near sealed it in the 9th with a shot from Gorsett
that JUST barely went foul on a 1-2 pitch. Had the wind not been
blowing that way, that would have been the end of it.

Bryce Nimmo walked to lead off the 11th and reached 2nd on a sac
bunt by Jaros. Naturally Gorsett was intentionally walked and Andrew
Brown struck out pinch hitting for Edlefsen (brought in to pinch run
for Gerch in the 9th. With speedy Brandon Buckman singled opposite
field on an 0-1 pitch to end the game.

The Huskers have now won 4 straight now and are 9-2 on the year.
They send Sophomore Johnny Dorn to the hill tomorrow at 1:05pm for
the second game of the series. Charlie Shirek will take the hill on
  Sunday.

The Bama pitching staff is very good. Today's pitcher, Wade LeBlanc
was very good today, scattered 5 hits and really just the one home
run Gorsett. He threw 126 pitches today in the no decision. Their
Saturday starter is very decent with a 2.45 ERA and a 2-0 record.
Their Sunday starter may even be better. He's freshman Tommy Hunter
who's 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA and he's really good. Great first win for
Huskers, but they've got a tough weekend ahead of him. Jensen
through 3.1 innings today, so I don't know how much of him we'll see
tomorrow. Hopefully the old Dorn shows up and we don't need him :)
