Nac> The Huskers finish 8 and 2 in their first ten games this season (all on the
Nac> road). Johnny Dorn was the winning pitcher and, if I heard correctly, first
Nac> baseman Brandon Buckman hit two home runs in the MetroDome.

You are correct, Buckman hit 2 homers in the game. Unfortunately, I
didn't have my video feed, but the broadcasters said they were 2nd
deck shots. Great game for Buckman who had been in something of a
slump. He went into the game with a .200 avg, bumped that all the way
up to .282 with the 4-4 day.

Other good news, we saw a Dorn pitching performance we'd been hoping
for, tossed six shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out
four. Jensen picked up his second consecutive save getting the
Huskers out of a bases loaded jam in the 8th. The Husker starters
this weekend pitched 19.1 innings and only surrendered 1 run (Watson).
Dorn dropped his 8.68 ERA down to 5.28 with the win and moved to 2-1
on the year.

Another play of note, again since I didn't see the play, but Nimmo
doubled in the 3rd, stole 3rd, and then stole home on the next pitch.

On a downside, Edlefsen committed 2 errors today starting in place of
Wherle at 2nd (Opitz shifted to ss). I'm not sure what's going on
with him, but hopefully he can straighten it out before Big XII play.

Shirek looked good in relief, Jensen gave up 1 hit that cost us a run,
but finished the deal.

All in all, good weekend for the Huskers.

Nac> Next up, the Huskers play the Alabama Crimson Tide in a three-game series at
Nac> Haymarket Park beginning Friday. If the starting pitching stays healthy, I
Nac> think we're going to be very good.

I'm hoping to get out on Friday and catch this team live to really see
what they're like.
