Good Evening All:
As has been noted here, Barry Collier has accepted and will be introduced tomorrow morning (10 AM CT) at a press conference in Indianapolis as the new Athletic Director at Butler University.
I for one (and maybe the only one) am sad to see Coach Collier leave NU. Coach Collier did not have the W-L marks that Tom Osborne had but he was "Osbornesque" in his disposition. A person of strong faith, concerned about the players and their life after sports and was committed to seeing them graduate.
Every encounter I have had with Coach Collier was pleasant, he was patient with autograph requests from my wife and son, and always had a smile and something nice to say to them.
The stress of the past couple of years in Lincoln took a toll that many will never know about and I'm not going to elaborate on them here, suffice it to say it's been difficult. With the stress removed Coach Collier will make an excellent AD at Butler and I wish him nothing but the best in his new position.
As far as the future of NU basketball it will come very quickly. I expect an announcement of the new head coach in the next day or two (probably Wednesday). My sources tell me that the decision has pretty much already been made on Coach Collier's replacement. I'm not going to comment on the name as it would be a huge violation of confidence between myself and a very well placed individual. I will say this however, unless the roof caves in there will be no interim basketball coach.
