For those of you that missed the info on current Husker Baseballers...3
Husker players will or have appeared in their respective summer league's
All-Star games.
Tony Watson will appear this Saturday in the Cape Cod League All-Star
Game. Watson is 2nd in the Cape in wins this summer and has 40Ks against
26 hits in his 36 innings of work over 6 starts.
In what could be some very positive news come next spring, RS Freshman
Pitcher to be Mike Nihsen was a Northwoods All-Star for the Duluth team.
Nihsen is 7-2 with a 1.34 ERA in 10 starts. He has struck out 30 in 60.2
innings while holding opponents to a .204 batting average.
The last of the Husker summer leave All-Stars is C Jeff Lanning. The
sophmore to be C who played as the primary backup for the Huskers as a
true frosh is hitting .286 with 1 HR and 19 RBI in 39 games. Remember,
these are wood bat leagues without the inflated batting average and HR
numbers associated with the regular college campaign.
Good luck to Shane Komine this Sunday. I will have to find the A's game
on MLB Extra Innings and throw it on one of the TV's while I watch the
Twins hopefully thrash the Tigers on the main set.
Have a great weekend.
Jeff
