Greetings,
In reading ESPN.com this morning and catching up on their takes on the
world of sports and college football I ran across a couple of
interesting tidbits.
First, in a blog entry on the Top 10 Mascots in College Football by
Bruce Feldman the oft maligned and always hated (at least by 90% of the
Husker Nation) Lil' Red finished a respectable #6.
Then, Ivan Maisel had an interesting piece on the best player ever to
wear each jersey number from 1 to 100. It wasn't a list of the Top 100
players ever, rather a list of the top player to ever wear a specific
jersey number.
Taking honors as the top player ever for their respective jersey number
were Tommie Frazier (15), Mike Rozier (30), Bob Brown (64) and Rich
Glover (79).
Gathering Honorable Mention for their respective numbers were Jerry
Tagge (14), Johnny Rodgers (20), Irving Fryar (27), Trev Alberts (34),
Dave Rimington (50), Aaron Taylor (67), Dean Steinkuhler (71), Zach
Weigert (72), John Dutton (90), George Andrews (96) and Grant Wistrom
(98).
The only jersey numbers that had no players associated with them were
#29 and #69. It really was an interesting piece and fun to go through.
Now back to your regularly scheduled summer football withdrawals.
Go Big Red!
Jeff
