A couple of quick Husker Baseball related notes:
- For those of you that missed it Alex Gordon has been selected to play
for Team USA in the XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game. The game,
which pits a team of 25 US prospects versus a team of World prospects
(as selected by MLB and Baseball America) will take place this Friday,
July 9. Coverage is on ESPN at 3 pm CST. Gordon has been killing AA
pitching and is almost a certain September call-up for the improving yet
still struggling KC Royals. Even as well as he is doing I still expect
Gordon to not be in the regular Royals lineup until probably around this
time next season.
- Current Husker Tony Watson is DOMINATING the Cape Cod Summer League.
For those of you that are unfamiliar, the Cape is a wood bat summer
league that attracts the nation's top collegiate prospects. Watson is
currently 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA and a 20-4 strikeouts to walks ratio in 20
innings pitched for the Harwich team. This is potential bad news for
those of us hoping Watson will return to be the ace of the Husker staff
next spring as a dominant showing this summer in the Cape is almost
certain to draw a very large bonus offer, or at the very least a rather
large increase in his existing offer from the Orioles - the team that
took him in the 17th round.
Just a little FYI for the baseball lovers on the list.
Have a great day.
Jeff
