There appears to be a common malady in the Husker basketball losses: backcourt
play and ball handling.

I was quite shocked by the performance at Creighton, and though it's widely
accepted that one game does not a season make, it was a sign of things to come
because while effort can come and go, the ability to handle the ball, run an
offense and choose shots well does not.

The losses appear to have in common a meltdown during which the Huskers time and
again give up the ball, and this lights a fire under the opposing outside
shooters. This also takes from the intensity of the Husker defense. This did
not happen against OU or KSU. Are the players capable or not well coached?

The inability to handle the ball is about the worst weakness a team can have and
probably can be attributed to new players in the backcourt and preparation.
Collier has certainly been exposed as a poor coach in this respect. If he is
to be replaced, I would suggest trying to find a coach that will relocate here
from an east coast or southeast city with recruiting ties and the ability to
attract the kind of athletes that OU, UT and KU are getting. When you're
counting on guys like McCray to pick you up, you're in trouble.
