Final Score: Texas A&M 86, Iowa State 81, in overtime in Ames. I thought A&
M would play the Cyclones tough today. It’s really difficult to show up every
game with a focused, intense effort in a balanced league. Acie Law and
Joseph Jones had great games for the Aggies, and a guy named Kenneth White came off
the bench late to nail two long three-pointers. Curtis Stinson had 19 in the
first half for ISU; ended up fouling out in OT with 27. A&M really needed
today’s game and their effort reflected that. They didn’t want to go 1 and 4
in league play.
Final Score: Oklahoma 60, Texas Tech 48 in Norman. Tech looked horrible in
the first half, down 32-12, then rallied to within four points in the second
half. I don’t think Bobby’s going dancing with this group. Their post-season
possibilities are appearing remote as they sink to 10-9 overall, 2-3 in
league play. Oklahoma improves to 2-2 in league, 11-5 overall. Oklahoma’s a
flawed team, but they might be as good as anyone this side of Texas.
Interesting happenings from around the country. Two previously unbeaten
teams tumble from the ranks. Number-one-ranked Duke goes down at Georgetown,
87-84. St. Johns knocked off previously unbeaten Pittsburgh 55-50. Only one
unbeaten left -- Florida -- who plays at Tennessee later today.
For what it’s worth, Iowa gets pummeled by the biggest margin ever in East
Lansing by Michigan State, 85-55. And to prove that there’s no such thing as a
"sure thing," number-13-ranked Wisconsin loses at home to out-of-nowhere North
Dakota State, 62-55!! Wisconsin’s a good team; solid program. There’s no
explanation.
Nebraska-Kansas, Colorado-Oklahoma State and Texas-Baylor are all just
underway. Missouri-Kansas State later tonight.
