Recent history is littered with similar examples. In 2000, Alabama was
ranked around #3 by most "experts" and went 3-8. In 2001, SI picked
Oregon State to win the national title. They finished 5-6. In 2002,
Nebraska was ranked around 10-15 by most preseason publications and we
went 7-7. In 2003, Auburn was ranked in the top 5 by most publications
and wound up going 8-5. In 2004, Kansas State was ranked 10-15 by many
publications and they went 4-7.

I don't expect Nebraska to have a losing season next year, but I also
think it's a tad ridiculous to delcare ourselves as "BCS contenders" in
January. A lot can change in the offseason, and this team still has a
lot to prove. The wins over Colorado and Michigan were steps in the
right direction, but those teams had a combined 14-11 record. Despite
the talent they lose, Texas and USC are going to be much harder to defeat.
