Steve Sipple had a good take on this in yesterday's Journal-Star, noting
that this is something we just better get used to.
We have a head coach with NFL head coaching experience, and NFL owners
tend to like to hire coaches with previous NFL head coaching experience,
even if it means some other owner fired them. (That phenomenon is not
restricted just to the NFL Billionaire's club, pro baseball and basketball
teams tend recycle the same old coaches over and over again, too.)
Further, not only do we have a staff made up of coaches with no long-term
ties to Nebraska, I think they all understand that they don't have lifetime
contracts here, so they better keep their resumes up-to-date and have their
agents follow up on any inquiries.
Also, since these coaches are more in the mainstream (at least on
offense) than the option-oriented coaches of the Osborne years, they're
going to be in bigger demand by other schools and the NFL.
I suspect it will be a rare occasion when there isn't at least ONE
coaching change every year or two.
