A JC transfer defensive tackle (last name is Johnson, nickname is The Beast)
who played with Ola Dagunduro last year is on board. Their coach says they
are equal in talent. That gives us a fourth guy for the rotation, if he pans
out.
Andre Jones is a JC transfer rated as good as Bowman, giving us three
quality corners, including Grixby.
We also have a four star receiver from junior college in Purify.
Recruiting-wise, I think Callahan did just as well in the JC ranks this year
as last year, but high school recruiting fell off the map, by comparison.
Because of the immediacy of some of the JC kids, I think Callahan's team
stays on track for next season. But he will really have to put together a
dynamite recruiting class next year, especially of quality high school kids,
if he's going to avoid getting stuck in a rut of mediocrity behind the
Oklahomas and Texases of the conference. The good news (according to
recruitnicks and people who follow local Nebraska football closely) is that
next year could be the best year in a decade for Nebraska high school
talent. Of course, it's not good news if Callahan loses them to other
schools. He got off to a good start by already getting a commitment from the
number one rated player in the state, Niles Paul.
