Well I have not played football at Nebraska, but I have played after high school as I suspect many on this list have probably not. That said, if I were still playing, I wouldn't give negative comments directed at me on this list a second thought, EVER. Division I college football players have thicker skin than some on this list give them credit for.
While the motives behind bashing current (and former) players is certainly suspect, I am willing to bet that while it may be a bit disconcerting for family members, players for the most part could give a rat's ass about what people say about them on the Internet. If these players were that worried about fans' opinions on listserves, college athletics would be in serious trouble. And until someone can prove otherwise,I find it very hard to believe that anyone directly involved with a major division I football program has the time or interest to sit down and read 30 messages about how bad the players and coaches are. I simply have to disagree with you on this. Ever sit at Folsom field (or many opponents' stadiums) and listen to some of the comments directed at Husker players- don't you think the families have had to listen to this too?
All that said, I don't think Tiedtke played that bad this season at all. Everyone makes mistakes, and these mistakes are much more noticeable in the national spotlight of Husker football. And I think bad mouthing players, while unfortunately within the "rights" of fans, is pointless on a list where the players have no opportunity to respond (at least not yet anyway). Has anyone sat down and studied the plays that Tiedtke participated in- and I don't mean TIVO-ing the games, but actually breaking down film of each play? I doubt it, so to say he is the worst safety in Division I is ridiculous.

When Eric was playing, I was aware that, like almost all families of
Husker players, they were HuskerList subscribers and read every
single mindless rant by some Listers who had never looked a red zone
in the eye.
Now, I can't prove it because I don't have access to HuskerList
records, but I believe with moral certainty that the Tiedke family
and friends also subscribe to this list but cannot respond in kind to
posts like the ones above.
Even if the Tiedkes had never even heard of the HuskerList, it seems
singularly maladroit to post such bilge through a university-level
mailing list theoretically devoted to supporting the Huskers.
