The Baylor Bears beat Kansas State tonight in Waco for their first win of
the year (no pre-conference games due to NCAA sanctions) in overtime by a score
of 72-70. The significance for the University of Nebraska is that Baylor’s
win, for the moment, puts the Huskers in sole possession of fifth place in the
Big XII. Baylor now travels to Lincoln for a Saturday night game against
the Cornhuskers (8 p.m. tip-off, ESPN+ … KLKN-TV8 here in Lincoln).

In other conference games tonight, first-place Texas beat Missouri in
Columbia, 66-53. Oklahoma beat Texas A&M in Norman, 71-63. Up-to-date standings
after tonight’s action look like this:

Texas, 6-1, 18-3
Colorado, 5-2, 15-3
Oklahoma, 5-2, 14-4
Kansas, 5-2, 14-6
Nebraska, 4-3, 14-6
Kansas State, 3-4, 12-6
Iowa State, 3-4, 13-7
Texas Tech, 3-4, 11-10
Texas A&M, 3-5, 13-6
Missouri, 3-5, 10-9
Oklahoma State, 2-5, 12-9
Baylor, 1-6, 1-6

This weekend’s schedule looks like this:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4 (local times)
Missouri at Texas Tech, 12:30 p.m.
Texas A&M at Texas, 1 p.m.
Oklahoma State at Kansas State, 3 p.m.
Baylor at Nebraska, 8 p.m.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5
Oklahoma at Kansas, noon
Colorado at Iowa State, 1 p.m.

The Baylor win tonight is a big surprise. I’m sure many thought they were a
candidate to run-the-table and wear the collar this year. Kansas State has
got to feel sick.

Nebraska’s game this weekend against Baylor can’t be taken for granted.
Amazing how the outlook has changed for Husker basketball over the past 11
days. Speculation abounds, but conclusions drawn before all of the returns are
in would not be recommended. This could be fun to watch. Then again, things
could change entirely over the NEXT 11 days!
