Gary can do a much better job of the specifics, but I
believe the Big 12 contracts allow schools to sell
broadcast rights within their home states. So I
believe that FSN can televise Nebraska basketball
games within the state of Nebraska.
Yesterday's game was broadcast by FSN Florida, and
picked up by FSN in Nebraska. I don't know if other
FSN regional channels chose not to carry the game or
if Big 12/ACC rules restricted the broadcast to
Nebraska and Florida.
Also, DirecTV and Dish Network do not carry every FSN
regional channel. Each FSN region (North, Midwest,
Rocky Mountain, etc.) also has multiple feeds, so for
FSN Midwest, there is a Missouri feed, a Nebraska
feed, an Iowa feed, etc. Furthermore, I believe that
DirecTV and Dish use the same narrowcasting features
that allow these satellite providers to transmit your
local channels to you. (I believe that the
transponder that carries some channels is only aimed
at certain areas of the country to allow the satellite
to carry more channels within the available
bandwidth...)
Also, I found this master schedule of FSN Nebraska
broadcasts that says that these games are only
available via satellite in Nebraska and parts of South
Dakota.
