I agree with what you say for the most part. I have
officiated a lot of games in my past on the high school and small
college level. It is not the official's job to keep the fouls
even. It is not the official's job to keep the fouls close. It IS
the official's job to make the calls as they happen and let the chips
fall where they might. Now I am not taking the side of the officials
in the Rainbow Classic. I am just saying lopsided foul numbers
doesn't translate into the officials favoring one team over the other.

I had a coach one time get in my face for that very thing being
his team had many more fouls than the opposing team. I asked him,
"Coach, isn't it possible your team is fouling more than your
opponent?" I also told him it wasn't my job to call a foul and run
down to the other end of the floor and call one to even it
up. Sometimes the fouls are fairly even and sometimes they're
not. It just depends on the flow of the game. With that said I have
felt at times mainland teams get the shaft in Hawaii. But, these
officials supposedly were from the PAC 10 Conference.

This is a pretty condescending post, Bob. You said that you agreed with
what I said "for the most part." What did I say that you DIDN'T agree with,
because I never said anything remotely close to how the team fouls should be
even or the ref's job is to keep the team fouls close or even? I think most
people on this list, basketball fans or otherwise, probably knew that.

Again, competancy of officiating is a matter of opinion (hopefully a
knowledgable one). I said there was one fact in this matter of opinion -- that at
the time of Sadler's rant the team foul situation was 7-zip. And that fact
MAY have been a factor in his behavior.

I didn't need to hear a needless, condescending take from a ref or a former
ref implying that I said things that I didn't.
