State and nearly losing to Colorado, all the while seeing Notre Dame (a 
team NU beat earlier in the season) accept a completely undeserved berth 
into the Orange Bowl.  In the end, NU beat Northwestern (Big Ten 
co-champion) by nearly 50 points.

Whatever Tubberville said, it's more likely a case of the media digging 
for some kind of cute angle on the bowl game.
