I agree with your comments that Huskers fans are great AND that they "stuffed the ballot box."  I also understand that ESPN wanted some controversy within the decision.  Herbstreit notwithstanding, many if not most computer rankings put these two teams at or near the top for all time teams.  Sagarin, for example, puts '95 NU as #1 and '71 NU as #2, just as this voting ended.  ActiVision or some such gamemaker recently had the '96 Florida team upsetting '95 NU in the finals of their "playoff."

Like the adage "Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean you don't have enemies;" -- just because Husker fans "stuffed the ballot box" doesn't mean ESPN ended up with the wrong answer.

Finally, the '71 Huskers wouldn't stand a chance against the '04 USC team if they played.  For one thing, we who graduated in '71 are now 55+ years old. [grin]
