No, it is Sit one year and that year is lost in eligibility.  I wish the Big 12 would abolish the year of eligibility loss. I only see it as a detriment to the student. 

Now Football, Basketball, Hockey and Volleyball are the only sports that do not grant a 1 free transfer to the athletes. It does not seem to be a big issue in the other sports, I really doubt if it would be in these sports as well. But that would require the NCAA to actually give up some control, so it won't happen.  

Also, on a side note, If a student graduates he can transfer to a new school to attend graduate school and is immediately eligible to play at the new school (provided he has not used up his/her 4 years in 5 year time span, without hardship rulings).
