Maybe, but take 3 plays away (the fumble on the 1st play, the long TD
bomb and the 1st down play when OU was deep in its own territory) and it
is a COMPLETELY different game.

For that matter take just the fumble away and the game changes character.

And while two of those could be pinned on the defense, the offense had
more than enough chances to score. It's hard to win when your offense
essentially puts as many points on the opponent's scoreboard as they put
on their own scoreboard.

Anyway, going to the Cotton Bowl has to qualify as a 'successful' season,
though with room for improvement. And I don't see anything wrong with that.

Besides, how does any coach improve on a string like Osborne's last five
years? I dont't think there is a coach alive who could do it, not even
Pete Carroll.

BTW, I also doubt that Steve Pederson cares much if the Huskers get paired
up against Arkansas and Nutt. After all, who's out to prove what? Nutt
is the one who told NU 'no', if anything that should help NU get motivated.
(And Nutt has proven himself to be willing to talk to anyone about a job
regardless of his contract, he's just Gary Barnettt in a razorback hat.)

BTW, did anyone notice that Steve Spurrier got a HALF MILLION dollar
raise for glancing in the direction of Alabama?

Yesterday a bit of order was restored to the football universe: OU and
NU played for the conference title, USC lost to UCLA and the only way
anyone can mention 'Notre Dame' and 'National Championship' in the same
sentence is when talking about the past.
