Well..... SP introduced Sadler, didn't say much, stepped away from the
mike and turned it over to Sadler. How 'bout that?
Sadler has a Southern accent, a twang that makes him personable. Looked
very nervous at first, then just started talking a lot about philosophy,
what he plans to do.
Talked about coming to Nebraska when he coached w/Arkansas and getting run
out of the place. Wants to pack Devaney Center, wants his team to always
play harder than the other guys.
Two rules he has:
"Free substitution" - if a player isn't going after a loose ball hard
enough, any player on the bench is allowed to go to the sub bench and
replace him.
"Take a charge" - if a player has a chance to take a charge, he'd better
do it.
Someone asked him - why come to Nebraska:
"It's pretty simple. I've got a chance to coach at a place that's had 233
Academic All- Americans. Coach at a place that's won 22 National
Championships. " - talked about the organization of Nebraska, that there
are a lot of great people who care about the student athletes and also
have a winning environment. Nice bit, actually.
He then took questions........ why "Doc"????? - Gunsmoke.
Who saved everyone on Gunsmoke? Doc. He had a hat he wore all the
time when he was young that was signed by Doc from Gunsmoke (the TV show
for you young-uns.)
Was smart enough to wear a red and white tie, asked someone if they liked
it.
Ended with "Go Big Red" and then "Thank Y'all".
SP did not return to the mike. Wow.
