Bill Callahan should have argued that marijuana use helped Grant deal with the
rigors of football, thus making it medically justified. This could have been a
revolution for athletes everywhere who enjoy a little herbal supplement here and
there. I don't think that it is performance enhancing, so it wouldn't require
asterisks in the record books. I don't know if things have changed since I was
in college 20 years ago, but pot was the least of teams' problems and was fairly
common. Ricky Williams' issues are bigger than marijuana, but THC is easily
detected.

Unfortunate situation, to be sure. But I admire the fact that he owned up to
the fact that it's his fault he got dismissed from the team, and was supportive
of his coach and his team on his way out. Hope he's able to get his personal
situation sorted out after all this attention.
