Hello Husker Fans,
Huskers split games 1 and 2 with the Longhorns as starting pitching
really let us down.
On Friday night, Joba struggled with his control all night walking
four and seemed to be running behind in the count for most of the
evening. The Longhorns picked up runs early scoring 1 in the first
and 2 in the third. That was enough for starter Kyle McCulloh who
kept the Huskers in check scattering 7 hits and striking out 4.
The Huskers actually outhit UT 10-9, but couldn't get the hits when
it really counted. We made it interesting, loading up the bases in
the 9th, bringing the tying run to the plate after Christy singled
to make it 6-2. Then Wehrle popped up to end the game and the
Huskers dropped the first of two.

Game 2
===================================================================
Game 2 seemed like it was going to be another long one for the
Huskers. Watson wasn't really on his game and left after just 2.2
innings (I believe his shortest of the year). His biggest problem,
IMHO was he really was throwing up in the zone. A lot of belt high
linedrives that were just killing us.
Then came in Shirek who all but shut down the horns letting up just
1 run and 3 hits over 4.2 innings, IMHO the MVP of the game. When
he came in, there was one out, runners on the corners, they had
already scored twice in the inning and he gets a double play ground
ball to end the inning that really seem to charge up the Huskers.
Two innings later, the Huskers really put it to the Longhorns,
scoring 6 in the fifth inning capped by a Ryan Wehrle single with
the bases loaded that was mis-played by the center fielder and
cleared the bases and left Ryan at third. Gorsett extended his 18
game winning streak with a RBI single just two batters later to make
it 6-4.
The horns brought it to 6-5 when another key play was made. Preston
Clark sent a towering shot to left to the warning track, but Jaros
made a great catch practically falling on his back. The runner from
first thought there was 2 outs and didn't run back to first and the
Huskers doubled them up.
The Huskers added another one in the 8th when Gorsett lead off with
a double, sac'd over by Brown and then scored on a wild pitch that
walked Opitz.
Jensen made it a little interesting in the 9th, walking one and
giving up a base hit single for runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs.
He struck out the final guy looking (on what was admittedly a very
close strike) to end the threat.
The Huskers finish the series Sunday at 1pm with Johnny Dorn on the
hill. The game will be on Pinnacle radio with Video streaming via
texassports.com (Fee required). You can listen to the game, however
on huskers.com and watch live stats off of the longhorns website.
