Hello Husker Fans,
Luke Gorsett continues to wow, or should I say WOW! His 2 run
double in the top of the 13th proved the winner in a great back and
forth ball game. Christy singled him in 2 batters later for the
final 5-2 score.
This was was truly a game of inches and Watson was spectacular. He
pitched 7.2 innings, gave up 3 hits and 1 earned run (another
unearned after he left). The unearned run came on an error by
reliever Brett Jensen who dropped a ball at first from Buckman.
The very next batter hit a foul ball down the left field line that
fell not more than a couple inches foul with runners on the corners.
That would have put he Tigers up, but instead, He popped out to left
field to end the inning.
MU's pitcher (the ace, well argued in another poster's email)
Scherzer had to leave for an 'injury' but I never heard what exactly
it was. He had skipped 2 games due to tendinitis, I don't know if it
was related to that.
In a twist of irony, Gorsett's RBI double in the 13th was maybe fair
by even less. It was so close that the MU catcher got in the face of
the home plate umpire for calling it fair.
The Tigers didn't just go away in the bottom of the 13th. They
loaded the bases with 1 out, without the benefit of a hit (3 walks)
but the Husker pitchers wouldn't budge. A line out to right and a
foul out to right ended the game.
Some important notes, Gorsett and Buckman were the only ones with 2
hits, Buckman hit his 9th homer of the year. Wehrle is in a bit of
a funk as he is 0-9 so far this series.
On Sunday, Johnny Dorn (4-2 3.65 ERA) will take the ball for the
Huskers. As of today, they were still unsure who was going to start
for MU. First pitch is at 1:00pm and is again on Pinnacle and
Sirius (Ch 107).
