Hello Husker Fans,
The Huskers found them self down early 3-0 against a good Missouri
team after 3 innings, but rallied behind Luke Gorsett (I love this
guy) for the win 6-3.
Joba Chamberlain rebounded from a rocky first 3 innings to shut down
the tigers. Overall he pitched 6 innings, struck out 2, gave up 3
runs off of 7 hits. Not a great performance, but enough to get a
win.
The Husker hitters took 4 innings to get warm, the first 10 batters
up to face the Missouri Ace were sent packing. Until Nick Jaros
broke the ice with a one out single. Then, two batters later,
Gorsett took the first pitch over the left field bullpen to make it
3-2. The very next inning, Jeff Christy hit his fourth homer of the
year over the left center wall to tie it at 3.
NU took the lead in the 6th when Gorsett knocked in Jaros who had
opened the inning with a double. Then, Buckman plated Wehrle, who
had walked right after Jaros's double, on a fielders choice.
Nathan Culp, MU's ace, came into today with a 1.98 ERA and a 6-2
record. 5 runs were the most he's given up this year, so credit the
Husker hitters for scraping their way back into it.
Brett Jensen came in for the last 2 innings and retired 6 batters
straight for his 6th save. Bird and Herr got NU out of a jam in the
7th after Cranston walked 2 consecutive batters with one out. Bird
struck out one and Herr got Mense to ground out to second.
The Huskers got an insurance run in the 8th with back-to-back
doubles by Gorsett then Buckman for the game's final score 6-3.
The Huskers move to 22-5 (5-2), MU falls to 16-12 (6-4). The two
teams play again tomorrow at 2:00pm. NU sends Watson's perfect 5-0
record to the hill (2.01 ERA) vs Max Scherzer (3-1, 2.70 ERA). The
game will be on Pinnacle Sports Network and Sirius Satellite (Ch
107)
