Hello Husker Fans,
In a Friday the 31st twist (ok, doesn't sound as good) Joba
Chamberlain's body was taken over by aliens and forced to pitch the
worst outing of his Husker career, losing 11-5.
OK, maybe he wasn't abducted, but he certainly wasn't himself. He
pitched 2.2 innings and gave up 5 runs, the shortest outing of his
career. He has only walked 7 coming into today and in his short
outing he managed to walk 4 and plunk another.
The immaturity of this Husker team came out a little, and I was
wondering when it would, and couldn't make the plays when they
really needed to. Kansas State is not the best team in the Big XII
either, they came into last night riding a 10-game losing streak.
In Saturday's game, the Huskers looked alot better, although the
usually reliable Jensen made it interesting. Tony Watson continued
to pitch very well, going 7.1 innings, letting up 3 runs (although 1
came after he left the game). He scattered 8 hits, struck out 5 and
didn't walk anyone to move to 5-0 on the season.
Jensen came in with 1 out in the 8th and, after striking out one,
gave up a two run homer to right center to bring the Wildcats within
1 at 5-4. Jensen has a tendancy to be all or nothing. Opposing
hitters are only hitting .132 against him, but this is the 4th homer
he's given up in 23.1 innings, more than any other pitcher. His
1.55 ERA (coming into today) leads all Husker pitchers with 10
innings or more.
The Huskers did it with small ball, without the benefit of a homerun
today. 3 of the 5 runs came on sacrifices and the others on a
double and a single.
The Huskers finish the series Sunday at 1:05pm with Johnny Dorn on
the hill. Hopefully a good finish for the 'struggling' Huskers who
have lost 3 out of the last 5.
