If the QB catches his batted ball, the result was not a forward pass because the
ball did not land downfield of where it was thrown, and he can keep trying to
project it until it does so, as long as it hits either a defender or an
eligible receiver. Perhaps Zack Taylor could do this a couple times to help to
bring his completion percentage up.
Are the Blackshirts going to be able to corral a mibile, athletic QB with tall
receivers against ISU? Palko was able to complete a 73 yard and two 26 yard
passes while being sacked 4 times.

Once the quarterback has made an attempt to pass the ball, i.e., his arm motion
has gone forward, then it is considered a pass attempt. That is the standard
used by referees to determine if a quarterback fumbled the ball or was
attempting to pass it. The arm must be going forward.
In the above example, if the ball is batted back to the quarterback and he
catches it, then it is considered a completed pass...to himself!
If the quarterback drops (fumbles) the snap from center, he can still pass the
ball.
