Gee, I seem to have spawned quite a discussion about BYU on the NU list.
Honestly that wasn't my intent.
 Yes, Norm Chow was the Offensive Coordinator at BYU when the won the MNC.
In my opinion, Norm Chow deserves a great deal of the credit for the
accomplishments during that time. Had he not been dissed by a racial slur
made by the then AD, things may have been very different.
 As to the stolen NC, NU was #1 going into the OU game that year. This is
the year following the NU Miami Orange Bowl. We had a good d, but the
offense was not as good. We were trailing OU 3-0 and drove down to have a
1st and 10 inside the OU 10 yard line with a few minutes left in the 4th
quarter. We couldn't put it in on four downs. On fourth down the I back
fumbled into the endzone in desperation. OU then broke a long run on the
next possession to finish with the 10 point lead.
 I broke a remote control on that game. My wife took years to tell me she
was rooting for OU so BYU could have a shot at the championship. Barry
Switzer started jawing that they should be #1 because he beat NU, then he
lost to Washington in the OB. (By the way, BYU then beat UW the next season
by 40 points).
