[Husker] Mussburger Ticket

That's a myth. I have a clip of that on my PC. Musburger says:
"Frost to the midddddllllleeee....
juggled...diving..touchdown!"

Apparently some people heard "diving" as "darnit" or "dammit" but it's
very clear that he said "diving", and there is nowhere else in that play
or after he says anything disparaging.

I hate Musburger as an announcer, I don't think he's very good at it,
and I've heard from people who've dealt with him that he's a very
pompous ass, but this was a great call. He stuck with the play all the
way rather than try to predict the outcome, and called it with great
excitement. I think Sean is right on the mark with his comments, plus
BM tends to make up his own nicknames and stick with them. I watched an
NC State game once and for the whole game he called them "Carolina
State". I lived in and around Raleigh for 16 years and NOBODY calls it
that. Or "Bucks" for "Buckeyes", "the freshman" and "the veteran"
running backs for Pitt (don't these guys have names?) and so on. One of
the reasons that he mispronounces so many things is that spotters aren't
allowed to talk to him. I heard that one spotter tried to correct a
pronunciation (might have been Millard) and the director cut him off and
told him in no uncertain terms that the spotter shouldn't talk to Mr.
Musburger, and that if he had a message to pass on to give it to him
(the director), and most of them probably don't make it to BM for
whatever reason.

If you listen to BM through the years he's usually quite complimentary
of Nebraska, I would say more so than most announcers. That's my
opinion. It's just that he's so grating, that if he does say something
bad it sticks with people. But what he said on the Davison catch is
fact.

I've had never heard anything about the storm troopers remark, but a
google search confirms he did write that as a Chicago columnist. So I
still don't like him.

Musburger (I think it's one 's') was heard to say "Darn!" when that
deflected pass was caught in the '97 Missouri game. (I didn't hear it,
but I was making a lot of noise myself and didn't have the VCR set.)
Other hate him for his "black-skinned storm troopers" crack about the
'68 Olympics salute.
