Alan's take is the best post I've read in a long time.
It's often said that holding and understanding two contradictory views in your mind is a sign of high intelligence. These days in Huskerland, it's damn-near a necessity. Problem is, the general Husker-following public hasn't been able to do this. Not in the least. It never rises to the occasion. That's why it's the general public, I guess.
Personally, I'm in tune with Alan's post. I really want Solich to do well at Ohio, and don't feel the need to disparage his efforts there to make Steve Pederson's decision look more prescient. Likewise, I (obviously) want to see Nebraska do well under Bill Callahan. Dear Christ, I'm not wired to think any other way. And besides, I think that this argument gets really boring after a while. The satisfaction of saying "I told you so" is highly overrated, in my opinion. It ain't worth the bandwidth, air time and ink that's gotten chewed up in the last 18 months, anyway.
Between one side bleating about the assassination of the oh-so-precious highly moral Husker bloodlines and the other side condescendingly putting quotes around the word "fan" to disparage anyone who might question or challenge the decisions of the current regime, the middle ground in this debate seems about as wide as the head of a pin. So, kudos to Alan, who found that middle ground and articulated it as well as anyone I've seen to date. That one's a keeper.
