[Husker] Defense

As a frequent critic of the coaches, I am seeing a bit of light for the D.
Overall I think they played well. I was concerned in the 1st half with the
ease that WF ran on them, esp on 1st down. However WF did not score &
NU was able to hold them.
The pass rush, again in the 1st half was tremendous. It appeared that
WF was screen blocking every play (hit once and let the D through). NU
got away once with a screen hold (DL are told to tie up a back if it looks
like a screen), McKeon got the int as a result. Muhammad was flagged
for a penalty on another.
The O does not look nearly as bright. Ross got half his yards on 1 play.
We also saw why BC called passes on 1st and goal against Maine, 3rd & 1
and 4th and 1 the runs were stuffed.
Special teams the results were good, with some real boneheaded moves by
WF. The first 2 drives starting deep in WF territory. Of course I just
watched
Seatle play Jacksonville and Pete Warrick (a former 1st rounder) caught a
punt on the 2 yard line (in the air), tackled at the 4. So anyone can
pull one like that.

Wake Forest had more first downs (19 to 13), more yards (247 to 234), and
more time of possession (35:20 to 24:40). In my opinion I don't call that
good defense. Wake had several receivers that were wide open and the QB
just missed them. Had they made a couple of those plays it could have been a
different game. Considering that WF isn't a top tier team, I wouldn't blow
my horn yet about the D scoring 21 points.
And no, I wouldn't want to be buried with a rusty shovel either.
