Wake Forest had more first downs (19 to 13), more yards (247 to 234), and more time of possession (35:20 to 24:40). In my opinion I don't call that good defense. Wake had several receivers that were wide open and the QB just missed them. Had they made a couple of those plays it could have been a different game. Considering that WF isn't a top tier team, I wouldn't blow my horn yet about the D scoring 21 points. 
 
And no, I wouldn't want to be buried with a rusty shovel either.
