[Husker] Just a thought

We don't know that much about the first game opponent -- until they play a
few more games, too. So, it's possible that Maine is a terrible offensive
team and very good defensive team. If that were true, then, perhaps our
offense isn't really as bad as it looked, and our defense isn't nearly as
good as we think. So, patience, first and foremost. We'll know more after a
couple more games.

I'm not really trying to make the case that Maine is a great defensive team
and a very weak offensive team, but that could be the case. Their win last
year over a 1A team was 9-7. I would think that the 65 scholarship limit
would mostly effect depth, and such a team might be better to begin the
season and have more trouble later as injuries pile up. Or, the coach might
put more if his limited resources in defense over offense, or another coach,
the other way. Just a thought.

He also might have gambled on stopping the run and making us beat him with
the pass. It sure appeared that way. A couple dropped passes are caught,
instead, and it's a two or three td lead, early. Take away the fumbles and
it's a route.

I'm not really as optimistic as this sounds. I'm just trying to cheer myself
up, and thought I might pass it along.

In fact, just to inject a little negativity, the play calling continues to
trouble me. Not only the obvious goal line stuff. If my above scenario is
right, then Callahan should have spotted the run stopping strategy and gone
up top right away instead of pounding away.
