Good news:
o No penalties.
o Offensive "pacing" seems to be much improved from last year.
Listening to the Webcast, it seemed like Jim Rose barely had time
between plays to pontificate before the next snap. Seems like the
coaches are more in sync this year with respect to playcalling
o Some lost opportunities (dropped passes, turnovers on punts, missed
PAT) are silly, first-game errors that probably won't happen with a
little more game-speed experience.
o Surpassed last year's punt return total in a single game. Nunn and
Grixby both had a great game, though their production tailed off as
the game went on, probably due to punt coverage adjustments by Maine.
o Blackshirts broke the single-game sack record with 13 (?)
o RUUUUUUUUUD! 8^)
Not-so-good news
o Running game was nonexistent, at least until Lucky came in. That's
a function of the offensive line more than the runner.
o Didn't capitalize on exceptionally good field position ... mostly
due to the silly things.
o Octavien - sounds like he may be hurt for at least a few games, but
Bo Ruud seems like he can handle things in Steve's absence ...
Pitt is getting punked badly by (unranked) Notre Dame 42-13 in the
3rd, and it looks like Oklahoma may even be beatable this year ... 8^)
