My understanding is that in the first month after the
stadium improvement project was announced, $15 million
was raised. Since then, the Myers family has donated
$5 million and Darin Erstad has donated $1 million.
And the rest of Husker nation? You do the math:
$21.4 million - $15 million - $1 million. No matter
how you do the rounding, it's still coming up well
short.
As for ticket sales, I've heard that people were still
able to buy season tickets after the Pitt game.
Outside the stadium, tickets have been generally
plentiful. I've had an extra ticket to most of the
games this season, and have eaten them twice, sold one
for $10 and another for $20.
One item working in the Huskers favor for selling the
additional seats is the perception that there is a 20
year wait for tickets. I'm sure many fans haven't
tried to obtain tickets because they assume that they
are impossible to get, and the expansion will bring
those fans to the market. Is there 6000 of them? Not
sure. Will they donate to get them? Probably not; if
they were willing to donate, they probably would
already be ticketholders.
As for a change in administration, the chancellor has
the AD's back, and the AD has the coaches back. It
will take a tremendous uprising to depose one or all
of these gentlemen; they aren't going anywhere.
(Though I suppose you can always dream...)
