[Husker] NU-Ok

Interesting theory Alan. I WAS optimistic about Frank and his new staff.

However for me it is more than that. It was my love for what the "Heritage
Program" stood for. The inherent competitive advantage of a program that
reflected the state.

In a strange way I'm adjusting and am OK with what happened. I used to wait
all week for the game and memorized every play and player I could since the
'60's. Now, I have to relive the release of the 1995 Orange Bowl - the win
that purged the pain of all those long cold winters after losing to Barry -
to even get in touch with what the Huskers used to mean to me.

Today I TIVO the game and don't bother watching it most of the time. I'm
not consumed each fall and that has become sort of freeing. (I don't miss
the Bobcat's who against all odds are in a tie for first place in the MAC
though. Love the way the rushing offense has come alive despite injuries on
the already depleted offensive line. Oh, and I don't miss reading the
Huskerlist.)

For me to get the fire going again at all the Huskers are going to have to
reconnect with the "Heritage Program". If Barney Cotton were to be named
head coach and he brought back heritage philosophies and staff it would be
hard for me to stay disengaged. (Congrats to Coach Cotton on the big win
this weekend.) Oh, and Pearlman and Pederson would have to be in some way
totally publicly disassociated with the honorable history of the University
of Nebraska - no matter how many National Championshps these strangers now
in Lincoln win.

Of course Solich only had one season below nine wins! So I'm no sure what
"back up to" means.

Meanwhile, on the one proven Callahan front, the Huskers got another
commitment, from a 3* defensive end/tight end from Nevada. Once again,
though, this is exactly the kind of player that Solich recruited and was
condemned for recruiting. I know I keep rehashing/venting, but it's the
double standard that bothers me.

I'm actually pulling for Callahan more than a lot of the grumblers. But I
predicted this along time ago. My theory being that pro-Solich/anti-Solich
was never the natural division. Rather its pessimists versus optimists, or
even better stated, those without patience versus those with patience. So
that it wouldn't take long for those who wanted to get rid of Solich to want
to get rid of Callahan, if he isn't winning. They forced themselves into a
corner of being Callahan/Pederson supporters because of the Solich
arguments, but a pure pessimist can only be patient for so long.
